Sewol Ship Disaster: Divers find 28 bodies taking to the total death toll to 87
Calm waters allowed divers to enter the ship on the 6th day of the rescue operation. Divers were able to gain access to the 3rd and 4th floors of the ship to find 28 bodies, taking the overall total to 87 confirmed dead.
Of the 28 bodies that have been recovered, 2 were foreign males. 215 people are still missing and unaccounted for.
The divers are only able to enter the ship when the water is calm. According to reports the waters have been so rough that when divers enter the water, their goggles are being pulled away. This leave divers only a short amount of time when the water is calm enough for the divers to enter the waters to conduct their searches.
The third and fourth floors of the ship, which was the guest cabins, game room and lounges were entered at 6:40pm local time.
The dive teams that managed to enter the ship today installed guidelines for more dive teams to be able to enter the ship.
The rescue operation is due to start entering the restaurant of the ship tomorrow at dawn where most of the students were trapped.
