Lunar New Year 2016 in London – What Events Are Happening?

This week it’s Lunar New Year / Chinese New Year, Year of the Monkey.

London comes out in full bloom with lots of different celebrations happening around town.

This year’s celebrations will start with a parade at 10:15 starting in Trafalgar Square going through the West End before reaching Chinatown.

Throughout the day starting at 1pm, Trafalgar Square will be host to several live performances including the Szechuan Opera.

The stage will then be occupied by various acrobatics, theatre and song recitals by artists visiting from China.

The day will come to a close just after 5pm with a fireworks display.

Chinatown will also have plenty to see and do throughout the day with craft stalls and various food stands expected to be open. You can expect restaurants to be busy on the day and queues to be expected.

Charing Cross Road will be expected to be less crowded with martial arts demonstrations and opera performances from the Chinese Young Cultural Ambassadors.
